2016 Course Speaker Biographies
Kia Eldred-McGee, OD, FAAO
Dr. Kia Eldred received her Optometry degree at the University of Houston College of Optometry and served on the faculty there for 20 years. She currently is a staff optometrist at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in the VISOR program and at the Lighthouse of Houston in the Low Vision clinic. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Eldred was a consultant at the Institute for Rehabilitation and Research in the Texas Medical Center for 18 years. She serves as a Vision Rehabilitation consultant to Region III and Region IV Educational Service Centers in the state of Texas. She is a Low Vision Diplomate in the American Academy of Optometry and serves as Chair of the TBI Optometric Workgroup for the VA system. Other interests in optometry include international mission trips with the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists.
Eileen Gable, OD, FAAO
Dr. Gable is a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She completed a residency in Ocular Disease and Primary Eye Care at Illinois College of Optometry (ICO). She served as director of the Vision of Hope Health Alliance, a grant-funded medical outreach program for the uninsured of Chicago, as Associate Professor at ICO. She then joined the Department of Ophthalmology of Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine. Her duties now include clinical care and resident instruction at both Loyola and the Edward Hines VA Medical Center. She serves as chair of the missions program for the Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Gable has traveled to Guatemala, Honduras, India, and the Philippines as part of her commitment to extend and promote eye care for underserved populations.
Lee Peplinski, OD, FAAO
Dr. Lee Peplinski graduated from Ferris State University College of Optometry with highest honors. He received post-graduate training at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. He joined Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers (BBEC) as a consultative optometrist in 1992, specializing in medical management of eye disorders, including glaucoma, dry eyes and pre- and post-operative care. He is Director of the Residency and Externship programs at BBEC. Dr. Peplinski is a Diplomate of the ABO and has lectured at state, regional and national meetings. He is past-president of the Kentucky Optometric Association and has won awards for his service. He has led teams of students and doctors with FCO on eye care mission trips to Belize.
